Drought in Shanxi Province Based on Remote Sensing Drought Index Analysis of Spatial and Temporal Variation Characteristics

Drought is a natural disaster with long duration and which causes great harm. Studying the characteristics of drought evolution in Shanxi Province can grasp regularity occurrence provide basis for prevention resistance. This study utilizes MODIS products to analyze quantify extent specific area. The calculates several indices, including Crop Water Stress Index (CWSI), Vegetation Supply (VSWI), Temperature Dryness (TVDI), using variables such as Normalized Difference (NDVI), Land Surface (LST), Evapotranspiration (ET), Potential (PET). Additionally, three indices are analyzed correlation self-calibrated Palmer Severity (sc-PDSI), most suitable index selected through validation typical events. Finally, used investigate spatiotemporal area from 2001 2020. results show: (1) CWSI sc-PDSI have strong both terms time spatial analysis. Furthermore, has been shown be more effective monitoring significant (2) multi-year mean values range 0.71 0.85, degree heterogeneity. In area, percentage affected by different levels following order: moderate > severe mild no drought. (3) trend changes shows that situation alleviated 2020, overall distribution indicates alleviation southern region greater than northern region. turning point wetness was 2011, showing characteristic “dry north wet south”.
